Sailing & Racing
Sailing at TTSC can be as peaceful and unhurried as you like or, if you fancy a bit more excitement, then join in one of our regular races held on Saturdays and Sundays. Races have been successfully formulated to suit all levels of sailing ability, age and boat type and to provide variety in the nature of type and level of competition. Our Year Planner will show you when races are held. There are usually two races on Sunday mornings, the first at 10 am and then at noon. Racing on Saturday afternoons starts at 3 pm. All are welcome to join in and prizes are awarded at our annual Laying Up Supper at the end of the sailing season. The various race series offer the opportunity for members to develop their sailing skills and put into practice the lessons learned in our RYA training courses. Participation in racing should be regarded as a means of extending your sailing skills in a relaxed environment and so enhancing your enjoyment of the sport. It offers a challenge as well as the chance to test your skills against both dinghies of your own (or similar class) and against those other members who could well have been on your own Level 2 sailing course. If you have been at the lake on a Sunday morning on a regular basis you would have seen that any one race is in fact actually a number of individual battles - all in good humour. Most of these are based on a series of races over the sailing season, with the final result being determined on a set number of races. These various series are supplemented with a number of individual events such as the Easter Egg Pursuit.

If you want to know more, then (space permitting) ask to join the Race Officer on a Sunday morning in the race box. Whoever is "on duty" can be counted upon to try to explain how the races are run and answer any questions you may have.

Boats raced are varied and include Albacores, Wayfarers, GP14s, Solos, Lasers and other assorted craft. The variable wind conditions at Haysden Water offer a challenging environment for both novice and experienced sailors to pit their skills against nature.

Haysden Water is part of Haysden Country Park, Covering an area of about 65 hectares it includes a range of natural habitats such as river, grassland, freshwater lakes, marshland and woodland. The site is designated as a Local Nature Reserve and in part a Site of Nature Conservation Interest. It has also been a Green Flag award park since 2006 and is a Natural England accredited park.
